Ice Ice Baby

I would have to say that my second meal on this journey was a success. Didn't ruin anything and it tasted pretty good. Only one man down in the whole process.... my hand. In true Webb girl style my mother's side of the family seems to burn themselves at every steaming hot opportunity. This time i decided that my left arm is stronger than I truly believe. I was playing musical chairs with the oven racks with my right hand and tried to pull the skillet out with my left (and of course I used a small silicone hand mitt, not a full sized one). Clearly I didn't think through the process before starting. Skillet meet palm of hand. Ouch. The show must go on though. Maybe with a little complaining...

Back to the topic at hand. Din-din was oven-fried chicken, coleslaw, and rolls. I had never done fried chicken before so I thought this would be a good start. I'm always a sucker for recipe pictures and get a tinge of depression when it doesn't look like the yummy example. Oh well, so is life.

Oh and on a side note, #1 hubby's birthday is tomorrow and I still don't have a gift. Eeeeekkk!!

Total Disaster

So day numero uno of organized cooking didn't go like planned. Couldn't get the sausage to crumble in the pan, burnt the bacon because I was fighting the sausage, the recipe called for wayyyyy to little half and half for the amount of pasta. So pretty much fiasco. Picture lots of pasta with pea soup without the soup and spicy italian sausage. Clearly not my finest hour. I hope this isn't a glimpse of days to come....

Stay tuned. xoxo

Much Needed Structure

So tomorrow marks the first day of the new cooking experiment. Ever since #1 husband and I moved in together there has been a constant fight about "what's for dinner?" I hate that question. It makes me crazy. My mind immediately goes to "umm hello. I'm sorry I totally forgot that I worked all day and the last thing on my mind was what was in the fridge to make you. Let me get right on that." I know very harsh. Moving on...

Being as anal-retentive as I am, I am shocked that I have not come up with this before now. Probably goes back to that laziness thing that I am trying to get over this year... hmmm... but I digress. I have planned out our dinners from tomorrow until the beginning of March. I made sure to leave some wiggle room for the last minute plans or late nights at the office that come up. I'll keep an update on how it works out. Hopefully it will at least reduce bickering after a long day. Fingers crossed.

Sterling Cooper anyone?

I think I want to start this post by saying that I am a generally happy, normal person. That being said.... I have a thing with personal space, my bubble, per se. If I don't know you or don't like you... you need to back away from the bubble. You need to especially not touch me. It seems to be amazing to me when people are oblivious to how close they are to someone and if it bothers them.

There is a new person at work that doesn't seem to get it. It just irks me. Getting up out of their chair to come over to you when you are speaking. Leaning over you when you are working. I mean they are definitely coming from the Don Draper school of business etiquette (by the way I am obsessed with this show) but let's get serious here, Yuck! Not really sure what to do to solve this predicament and also keep the workplace environment kosher. Hopefully there will be an update soon...

Whoops!

So I just realized that I never uploaded the picture yesterday of my catch-all. So here it is. Love it!

On a very somber note, please pray for the people in Haiti. Early estimates of 50,000 to 100,000 dead. Pure devastation.

Just My Luck

So I have been a little MIA....

This weekend was really nice, #1 husband had to work (stupid job) on Saturday. I made a little gourmet breakfast and painted the last dining room wall. Well, that wall is definitely a different color than the rest of the room. So I am going to have to repaint the whole room with a new can of paint. So annoying.

I have to share with you a website I found that I am absolutely in love with. dabneyleeathome.com Anyone that knows me, knows that I love a good monogram, and she definitely delivers. As you can see, I have the the catch all in damask moderne, with a madison avenue monogram in robin's egg. I am in love. My next purchase will be the large lucite tray. Perfect for summer out by the pool.

More later, off to shower.

The Little House that could

Clutter clutter everywhere. My house continues to look like a tornado touched down. Mattress in the dining room, stacks of magazines, mail, and anything else in every room. Oh and I cannot forget that the Christmas tree is still up (yes I know it is January 9th) and all of the Christmas decorations have yet to grow legs and get into the attic. Slowly forgetting its all there... not good!
After a week I got the final coat of paint on the laundry room, so I can finally do all the laundry that was about avalanche out of the baskets.

Speaking of, the dryer is singing... time to fold : )

Blessed

I have the most amazing friends in the world. Recently a very serious conversation was discussed and the amount of love and concern that rushed out was more than one could ever hope.

Love you

"Winter Mix"

So I just heard that we are going to have a chance of snow on Saturday...in FLORIDA! This is just getting ridiculous. I am super excited for the thought of it though. I have only seen snow twice, and last time was in high school. I will however be very excited from inside. With the heat on. And a fire. I'm just saying.

brrrr

So I live in Florida... also known as the Sunshine State. Currently notsomuch. My toesies are little popsicles. Its been an average of 45 degrees for the past 4 days and guess what. . . there is so change in our immediate future. I am miserable. I am tiny and freeze in the 70s. I can't even stand the air blowing on me when its 100 degrees outside. I'm just saying, there are reasons I didn't move up north. Listen Frosty, Christmas was a week ago. Time for some warmth. pronto.

On a belated christmas kind of note, my nook came today! Not very patient so I was very excited. I enjoy reading but never want to tote around my big heavy book in my bottomless pit. I clearly don't need any more shoulder pain than I already afflict on myself. I am one of those people that love to read in places that generally its not a great idea. There is absolutely no comfortable way to lay in bed and read, or be on an airplane and read. You always seem to get comfortable in the position that gives you zip zero light.

Off to try reading in bed... stay tuned : )

So Fresh and So Clean Clean

I love laundry. Like more than the normal human being probably should. There is something about doing it that is relaxing to me. My mother is the polar opposite of me. In 5th grade I demanded to start doing my own laundry because she may or may not have ruined my favorite pairs of jeans. Nobigdeal.... Anywho.

The scent of the detergent (Gain only) and fabric softener (Downy only) just wipe away any of the issues I might be having. When we moved into the house of horrors we were definitely washing clothes in 1976. Beige top loaders from hell. Needless to say I was not getting the love I needed from them, and frankly I didn't want it. My christmas present this year from #1 hubby (I did beg absolutely every day for new ones. I'm just saying) was a brand spanking new front load washer and dryer.... AMAZING!... to say the least.

I am now back in sudsy heaven.

Can I get an AMEN.

On another note, anyone who knows me knows I am a crazy Florida Gator fan. My alma mater just frankly blows your pants off all day long and I love it. I just need a little shout out for them kicking arse and taking names last night at the Sugar Bowl. As always, its great to be a Gator.

Enough for now.

Leaving Neverland

So on the first day of "Oh Ten" (I mean what are we supposed to say.... O Ten? Twenty Ten? Two Thousand Ten?.... not important) I felt like I should start a new. I know, how cliché.

I have been thinking for several months that I need to grow up. You can ask any of my friends and they already think I am "soooo old" but I am here to attest that is completely and utterly false. I am an organized mess and the laziest person I know. Girl loves some couch time, popcorn, and a good show, but I digress....

I am not one for resolutions, let's be honest, we just throw those out the window while going 70. I have decided that this year I will just grow up. Take better care of myself, my husband, and my baby (yes I do understand he is a dog). Actually keeping the house in better shape than the someone-is-coming-over-in-20 sweep it has been in since we signed the papers. I always take on more than I can chew and then just stand there with my mouth full and regrets.

I want to be that grown-up my besties think I am. We will see if I can actually get those big girl leggings on.....
